Creating a Cameo Pendant from an Old Brooch

I picked up this little vintage cameo brooch for less than a dollar second-hand forever ago. I don’t wear brooches… and rarely  wear gold, but I liked the cameo. I have always thought cameo’s were lovely, I think I had a porcelain doll with a tiny cameo when I was very little perhaps that’s why. In any case I got around to re-fashioning it the other day when I saw that the Vintaj line of natural brass findings were on sale at Hobby Lobby.

I bought a pendent blank:

A 24 inch length of chain:

Plus a pack of jump rings. I usually make my own jump rings but I didn’t have a spool of brass wire so I sprung for the pre-made ones. The hardest part of this project was carefully prying the gold pin away from the cameo. Eventually I got it loose.

I used E6000 to glue the cameo to the brass pendant blank and left it to dry.

I prefer long necklaces that can slip over my head so I used the jump rings and 5 inches or so of extra brass chain from another project to create a longer finished chain for the cameo:

Lastly I used a jump ring to connect the pendant to the chain. I really like the way the cream color of the cameo and brass contrast.

A super quick and easy little project. Nice!
